Distribution Boards

Distribution board is used to combine or distribute connections with providing protection to each connection in solar pv system. We need to provide protection to avoid any damage to our system due to any fault. We use fuses, circuit breakers, SPD (Surge Protection Device) as protection devices.

Distribution board is used to combine or distribute connections with providing protection to each connection in solar pv system. We need to provide protection to avoid any damage to our system due to any fault. We use fuses, circuit breakers, SPD (Surge Protection Device) as protection devices.

For both DC side and AC side, we use different boards. DCDB for DC side application and ACDB for AC side application.

DCDB

  • DCDB (DC Distribution Box) is also called as DC Combiner Box, Array Junction Box (AJB).
  • DCDB provided between solar array and solar charger controller or inverter.
  • DCDB is use to combine or distribute stings at DC side along with providing protection to each connection.
  • It is important to provide protection to our system. We provide of fuses and SPDs of sufficient rating for protection purposes.
  • Fuses are used to protect our solar arrays from any accidental short circuit.
  • During short circuit fault, fuses break the circuit or path by melting fuse wire. It avoids further damage and protect our system. Once fuse wire melts, we need to change the fuse.
  • SPD (Surge Protection Device) is provided to protect our equipment from sudden voltage spikes.
  • SPD divert such a sudden voltage and current to the earthing system hence protecting our equipment from severe damage.

ACDB

  • ACDB (AC Distribution Board) is also known as Panel Board.
  • ACDB connects the inverter with the grid.
  • ACDB combine all AC output from all inverters and feed combined AC outputs into main panel board.
  • ACDB is an important part in solar PV system to provide protection between inverter and grid.
  • We provide fuses or circuit breakers and SPDs of sufficient ratings for protection purposes.
  • We have seen how fuses and SPDs work in DCDB.
  • Circuit breakers trip and disconnect the circuit when short circuit current flows.
